प्रथम स्वतंत्रता सेनानी
चम्पावत के रहने वाले, उन्होंने 1857 की क्रांति के दौरान अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ 'क्रांतिवीर' नामक गुप्त संगठन बनाया था।
'कुमाऊं केसरी'
इन्होंने कुली-बेगार प्रथा के खिलाफ सफल नेतृत्व किया और प्रसिद्ध पुस्तक 'कुमाऊं का इतिहास' लिखी।
टिहरी के अमर शहीद
टिहरी रियासत की तानाशाही के खिलाफ 84 दिनों तक आमरण अनशन किया और जेल में शहीद हो गए।
कुमाऊं कांग्रेस के स्तंभ
अल्मोड़ा में कुमाऊं परिषद की स्थापना और कुली-बेगार आंदोलनों में उनकी भूमिका अतुलनीय रही।
